Much evangelization has taken place among the Hmong, and there are now some Christians, but there are few church leaders and pastors capable of teaching and leading. Within Thailand, 90% of Hmong churches are without pastors. In some churches, a small group of believers gather together on Sundays to sing a few songs and pray. There is no encouragement, no reading from the Scripture and no teaching. This is due, in large part, to a general lack of training and discipleship. Lack of literacy--hence inability to read the Bible--also compounds the problem. This in turn produces immature Christians with very little knowledge of the Bible or how to lead their lives in a way that is pleasing to Jesus Christ. Many are Christian in name only and do not really understand what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. Also many Hmong currently live in countries that are inaccessible to missionaries and where it is illegal to openly share the gospel. These believers desire to learn and grow in their faith as well.
The Bible training center is very important in order to raise up and train future church leaders. The greatest need is for church leaders who are capable of leading their flock. The training center fulfills that need. Students at the center also get practical experience giving devotionals, leading worship and going on outreaches. They learn other useful things such as computer and English skills. The training center also prepares the students whom God is calling to enter a 4-year Bible college. Students entering a 4-year Bible college are expected to enter with at least some knowledge of the Bible and be ready to read and write copious amounts of material.
